On 13th March, 1915, the 1st Middlesex battalion of 19 Brigade, then with 6th Division, moved into trenches running from Touquet to Rue du Bois near Armentières where they remained until relieved on 17th March. On 15th March, the day on which Charles Davies was killed, the enemy carried out a lot of sniping throughout the day as well as firing rifle grenades at the positions held by 1st Middlesex. |
